School of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine

Welcome to Health Education England Thames Valley School of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine – known widely as the Oxford School of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

We aim to provide a very high quality of Anaesthetic training. Trainees will be appointed to the rotation, not to specific hospitals. Posting will be arranged by the TPD taking into account the training requirements of all the trainees, specific individual training requirements and also personal preferences. Trainees must expect therefore, that they could be placed at any hospital in the region. For an overview of anaesthetic training please see the RCoA website. For details of our School Training Programme, please see the School Website.

During 7 years of total training time, most trainees will spend 3 years of that time in the Oxford University Hospitals, our major tertiary centre. We are very supportive of trainees wishing to undertake Out of Programme training / research / experience / career break, and consider all applications on an individual basis. We are also very supportive of applications for Less than Full Time Training.
