JDFCT posts run over two years allowing you to simultaneously undertake a Foundation post in general practice, alternating weekly with a Core training post in the Community or Special Care setting or Maxillofacial department. In your second year, you will have further day release once a week in an alternative setting where further Core competencies can be undertaken.
This longitudinal training model gives trainees the opportunity to have exposure to a variety of dental specialties early on in their training, integrating primary, community and secondary care settings within the two years.
You will attend the Foundation Induction and study days in the first year and the Dental Core Induction and study days in the second year.
A specific JDFCT Curriculum is currently in development and so at present, we will be referring to both Foundation and Core Training Curricula and Training requirements.
You will leave with both Foundation and Dental Core Certificates of Completion at the end of year two.

We hope all trainees have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience, however, there are a range of people and resources to support you if you experience any problems or have any concerns. In the first instance trainees are encouraged to discuss any difficulties with their Educational Supervisor or Training Programme Director who can offer guidance and signpost to suitable support.
