In Radiology there are few courses that we could strictly refer to as “essential” but of course a number that are desirable.
However considering the RCR 2021 new curriculum ARCP progression grid we would stipulate the following:
ST1:
RCR Welcome to Radiology Day (now usually on-line).
Compulsory attendance at the FRCR Part 1 Anatomy and Physics teaching sessions: both local to OUH and online Academy sessions.
Red Dot radiology course (The A&E Survival Course).
Attendance at one pre FRCR 1 Anatomy revision course and one pre FRCR Part 1 Physics revision course.
There is requirement to show evidence of involvement in research and we would support one national meeting per year to present a paper / poster.
ST2/3:
Attendance at 1 pre-FRCR exam course for each of the exams, the FRCR 2A and 2B, which may be taken in the same year.
There is a requirement to show evidence of involvement in research and we would support one national meeting per year to present a paper / poster.
ST4-ST6:
A course in the area(s) of specialist interest you are focussing on may be advised by your Clinical Supervisor. For example:
For GU Radiology: ESUR MRI Prostate Teaching Course
For GI Radiology: A CTC (CT Colonography) Course as essential for any trainee subspecialising in GI Radiology
For Interventional Neuroradiology: ECMINT (all 4 modules)
For Neuroradiology: ECNR (at least one module)
For Cardiac: Level 2 cardiac CT course
ST4: Attendance at 1 national (or international) meeting to present a paper or learn more about a subspecialty.
ST5: Completion of a management course is mandatory at this stage.
Attendance and presentation at a national or international subspecialty meeting would also be expected.
ST6: Completion of a management course unless did so in ST5
Attendance at 1 national (or international) meeting to present a paper or learn more about a subspecialty.
It is worth noting that the current OUH Study Leave Policy allows for the funding of only one conference involving international travel every 3 years.
