As a doctor you must make sure that you have adequate and appropriate insurance or indemnity arrangements in place covering the full scope of your medical practice in the UK.
Work carried out as part of your agreed training programme is covered by your employing Trust’s indemnity scheme. In England this is provided through the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts administered by NHS Resolution.
This includes GP Trainees who are either covered by the CNST (whilst in hospital posts) or the state backed Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practitioners (CNSGP) (whilst in GP practice placements) along with additional indemnity cover funded by NHSE.
For any work undertaken outside your training programme you must ensure that you purchase appropriate additional cover.
Further information can be found on both the GMC and BMA websites.
